Foundation letter from leadership - New Centres and Programs

This year we opened the Joseph and Mildred Sonshine Family Centre for Head and Neck Diseases, a patient care and research facility dedicated to surgery and treatment of thyroid nodules and cancer. We also marked the opening of the innovative Cyril & Dorothy, Joel & Jill Reitman Centre for Alzheimer’s Support and Training, a unique facility offering training to caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients. Another official opening saw the Sydney and Florence Cooper Family Education Centre begin to welcome students across the health-care spectrum to an inter-professional environment that brings together technology, educators and teaching programs.

Our Auxiliary, the oldest and largest in North America, applied its considerable talent to fundraising for the Hospital’s highest priorities. The Auxiliary’s new $2 million Advancing e-Meds pledge will help implement an electronic medication ordering system across the Hospital.

Legacy Sinai donors are fundamental to our continuing evolution. Because of their own experience at the Hospital, or that of a family member or friend, they are inspired to support the health of future generations by naming Mount Sinai as a beneficiary in their will or life insurance policy. This year, donors’ legacy gifts provided $6.7 million in support from gifts in wills and an additional $4.5 million has been confirmed for future gifts.  

The Moyer Foundation donated $100,000 to the Max and Beatrice Wolfe Centre for Children’s Grief and Palliative Care in support of Camp Erin, a bereavement camp for children and teens.

Any discussion of the philanthropy of culture that sustains Mount Sinai would be incomplete without mentioning our wonderful staff. We are immensely proud that fully 100 per cent of Mount Sinai physicians contributed to this year’s Physicians’ Campaign and that our Staff Campaign was the most successful yet. Together, these campaigns generated over $1.2 million. This is a resounding endorsement from our very own Bright Minds and Big Hearts, and it sends the community a powerful message.
